Ukraine’s Mad Heads XL in Concert September 15, 2010 One of Eastern Europe’s hottest contemporary ska bands – MAD HEADS XL of Ukraine – will be performing at the Edmonton Event Centre in West Edmonton Mall on September 15, 2010. Tickets are available at the Ukrainian Bookstore in Edmonton (10215-97th street northwest) or by visiting www.ticketmaster.ca (780-451-8000). MAD HEADS XL was unleashed in February 2004 as the new incarnation of the famous Ukrainian trio Mad Heads. Guitar, double bass and drums were enforced with a powerful brass section, and the wild rock’n’roll drive was enriched with new musical influences…elements of ska, reggae and Ukrainian folk. But the overriding factor was the band becoming full of powerful positive energy and optimism. The musicians’ great live performances turn any concert into an unforgettable show, making the audience part of it, whether it’s a small club or a huge open air event. No doubt that made this newly born band popular even before the first video clip appeared on TV. In May 2004 MAD HEADS XL stormed the stage of the biggest Ukrainian festival: TAVRIA GAMES and became regulars at many major Eastern European events ever since. In stadiums, central squares and sporting arenas, the band was spurring people to collectively dance, lighting up their faces, raising spirits and filling their hearts with optimism. The living philosophy of MAD HEADS XL was explained for the first time in the song “Nadiya Yea” (There Is A Hope), which became one of the biggest Ukrainian hits of 2005. Radio stations kept the song on high rotation for more than 27 weeks and the bright and sunny video for the song became a regular on TV screens. From then on, whatever part of Ukraine the band was visiting, the halls, squares and stadiums were singing it along with the musicians. More positive songs were soon to follow and become national favourites: self penned “Pisnya Svitla” (The Song Of Light) and “Avtobus Buratin” (The Bus Of Buratinos), as well as covers of the international hit “Don’t Worry Be Happy” and the national hit “Smereka.” These songs along with a host of other tracks soon became collectively known as the album “Nadiya Yea” released in Ukraine in October 2005 by Comp Music / EMI. In June 2006 the album also appeared on EMI labels in Eastern Europe – in Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and other baltic countries. In 2005, the band performed at the biggest Czech rock festival: ROCK FOR PEOPLE, and was so successful they were invited for the next year as well. Then in 2006 MAD HEADS XL also visited Hungary to become the first Ukrainian band ever to perform on one of the main stages of the SZIGET festival, one of the largest in Europe. 2007 began with new studio sessions and two new tracks were soon to become widely recognized. The ballad “Naykrascha Myt” (The Best Moment) was the most romantic of all the love songs the band had ever written. The same feeling came across in the video, which was the first Ukrainian clip filmed in the city of Prague, Czech Republic. The song hit the air in the Spring and was loved by the radio stations. For the first time MAD HEADS XL became #7 on the national airplay charts. Whilst constantly touring, MAD HEADS XL kept working hard in the studio. In the Spring of 2008, they released a new single and video for the song “Buvaye” (It Happens), which was a precursor to their forthcoming album. The album was released in June and contained 14 new songs filled with the boiling energy, unbreakable optimism and philosophical depth that the band has become known for. The album “Forever” has opened up a new chapter in the band’s life. Expect the unexpected as old and new meet in an evening of ska, reggae and Ukrainian folk, September 15, 2010 at the Edmonton Events Centre (8882 170 Street Northwest #2556) in West Edmonton Mall. This is an All-Ages event. Doors open at 7pm; opening act at 8pm; Mad Heads XL at 9:30pm.
